In March the lifts of the Skiarea Campiglio Dolomiti di Brenta are still running in Madonna di Campiglio: 95 per cent of the slopes are covered by snowmaking and the days last around two hours longer than in January.
The snow in March
The Skiarea runs between 850 and 2,500 metres and covers 95 per cent of its 156 kilometres of connected slopes with snowmaking.
In March the snow follows the freeze and thaw cycle typical of spring at altitude. In the morning the surface is firm, after the night frost. As the sun climbs it softens, and you ski on spring snow.
That rhythm also changes how you plan the day: shaded slopes stay firm for longer, sun-facing ones soften earlier. At Chalet del Sogno we can tell you where to go according to the hour and the conditions of the day.
The lift season runs to mid-April
The winter season of the Skiarea runs from late November to mid-April.
So March is not the tail end of the season: it is the full season. You arrive and find the ski area in its complete configuration, connections included.
A day in March, from morning to sunset
You start early, on freshly groomed slopes, on hard snow that holds an edge. These are the best hours for the technical descents, the Canalone Miramonti included, the 3Tre race piste.
Around midday the rhythm changes. The mountain hut terraces fill up, lunch is eaten outside, and many take a break from their skis. Those who go back out find softer snow and near-empty slopes in the early afternoon.
Then there is the light. In early March the sun sets around 6 pm; at the end of the month, with daylight saving time, after 7.30 pm. That is ninety minutes more of day, spent on a walk through the village or in the spa before dinner, without hurrying.
Quieter slopes: a question of the calendar
Italian and European school holidays are concentrated around Christmas, New Year, Epiphany and the ski weeks of January and February. In March that pressure fades, while the number of open lifts stays the same.
In practice: less waiting at the lift stations, more room on the wide pistes, mountain huts and dining rooms on a human scale. If you ski with children or you are learning, it makes a difference.
Who March suits
For strong skiers
Two different kinds of snow in the same day, and the freedom to choose the aspect by the hour. The connected kilometres towards Folgarida, Marilleva and Pinzolo run without queues, with more daylight to cover vertical.
For couples
You ski in the morning, have lunch in the sun, and the afternoon stays free for the Oasi del Sogno spa and for an unhurried dinner at the Due Pini restaurant. The dining room is not as full as in high season.
For families
Lessons are easier to book than during the ski weeks, the slopes are quieter for beginners, the lift queues are short. If your children are not yet at school age, March is the easiest window of the year.
For those who do not ski
Walks on groomed, signposted paths in the Madonna di Campiglio basin, snowshoe routes set by the alpine guides, walking up to the mountain huts using the lifts. And the sunny terraces at midday.
Weather and what to pack
The temperature swing is the main variable: winter temperatures at dawn, warm sun at altitude by midday. Dressing in layers solves most of it.
March sun reflected off the snow is stronger than it looks: goggles with the right lens and high-factor sun cream are genuinely useful, even for those who never use them in January. Skis and boots can be rented at the hotel, which also has a heated ski room.
What it costs to ski in March
March falls into the low-season ski pass rate. In 2025/2026 the adult day pass cost 74 euro in low season against 85 euro in high season, applied from 16 March to the end of the season. The price list is updated every year by the Skiarea.
